Xiaofeng Jia, B.M., M.S., Ph.D., FCCM is the director of Neurosurgical Stem Cell Research and the director of the Translational Neuroengineering and Neuroscience Laboratory at the University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB). He is a professor with tenure in the Department of Neurosurgery at the University of Maryland School of Medicine, Department of Orthopaedics, Anatomy Neurobiology, and an adjunct professor of the Department of Biomedical Engineering at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. He has been a faculty member since 2007 and was the Associate Research Professor in the Department of Biomedical Engineering, Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Anesthesiology & Critical Care Medicine at Johns Hopkins University. He completed his surgery residency at the Huashan Hospital and his Orthopedic Surgery fellowship at the Shanghai 6th People's Hospital. He had been an Attending Surgeon in the Department of Orthopedics at the Shanghai 6th People's Hospital and later the Zhongshan Hospital.

Dr. Jia has served as the Chair of the Research Section Steering Committee, a member of the Discovery Steering Committee, and the Discovery Oversight Committee, of the Society of Critical Care Medicine (SCCM). He is a fellow of the American College of Critical Care Medicine (FCCM), and a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS) (basic science).

Dr. Jia is the editor-in-chief of the International Journal of Molecular Sciences, Section "Molecular Pathology, Diagnostics, and Therapeutics", the Associate Editor for Frontiers in ImmunologyFrontiers in NeuroscienceFrontiers in Neurology, and the guest editor for the Special issues for Frontiers in Cell and Developmental Biology, Frontiers in Immunology, Frontiers in Bioengineering and Biotechnology, International Journal of Molecular Sciences, and BioMed Research International

Dr. Jia has been serving as a Chartered Member of the NIH ANIE study section and an ad-hoc member of eight NIH study sections.
